The impact of Pornography on Teenagers and Children.

Teenagers and children get exposed to pornography through the media, internet and reading material! Many of the adult book shops are not policed and easy accessible to teenagers. The internet has become such a powerful tool and teenagers and children are using it more and more. They get the misconception that it is ok and get a warped view of what sex is all about. Consequently they see no harm in watching porn or reading it.

But let us go even deeper and investigate. Some have been roped into watching porn and participating in sexual acts by trusted adults telling them it is a natural thing to do; other might have been abused or raped.

I, myself, was sexual abused and had to perform sexual acts I did not know was not normal. One of my predators was the son of a government official, as well as one of my brother’s best friends. In the days that I grew up you could not speak to your parents about these things.

It resulted in me becoming promiscuous as well very overweight.

This experience made me want to warn other parents what can happen to their child.

These teenagers and children have lost all feeling of self worth, and think pleasing the adult make them feel happy or they might be frightened of the consequences. Most of these teenagers and children probably have been sexually abused or even where exposed to incest.

The teenagers and children become sex addicted and porn addicted as time goes on. They fantasize what they can do and often act on it. Many of the teenagers have web cams and use them. The adult who signs on to talk to the teenager might be the one telling  them to act out certain sexual poses or even ask them to engage in sexual acts with another teenagers or children.

The teenagers or children are tempted with gifts and money, often the predators are paedophiles. The teenagers or children are not aware of this and think they are doing this for pleasure and money. Recently a major talk host had a teenager on her show who talked about the way the paedophiles roped him in. He met the paedophiles over the net and felt great earning such large sums of money. He has now helped authorities to stop this misuse of the net. They make them feel important and even encourage them to meet with them. It is very hard for these children to resist these people and get out of these situations.

Often the parents are not even aware of the amount of time the teenagers or children spent on the net. If you come aware of your child is involved in pornography and has become addicted to it, you must seek help as soon as possible. Especially when your child becomes more than interested in sex, even start masturbating, get help!

The only way the parent can at least control some of it, is with a new tool – a filter, blocking certain excess to sites for them. We must also be careful of television as many channels now show things that are inappropriate for children to watch. Often these programs are even started at an early time in the evening. There even have been occasions that paedophiles have gone into third world countries and adopted children for the sole purpose of using them as sex slaves. Child trafficking is very high in the world.

You might be surprised to know, who are involved. They could be individuals in your daily life, even your clergy or scout master. We have recently seen in the media that people in authority are involved in pornography like policemen, teachers or even politicians.

To help these children and teenagers we need to get to the root of where it started. You need to get their trust and have them opened up to you.

There are several ways to do this:

1. You need to find out when and where it started.

2. You need to find out whom was involved.

3.  You need to find out how they found the website and who encouraged them to keep on watching.

4. You need to find out how involved they are and even if they have met with the adults who encouraged them (paedophiles).

5. You need to find out if they sexually active and with whom.

6. You need to find them one of their own peers whom they can trust and open up to.

7. You need to take them to see an accredited sex therapist that deals with children.

You must be able to convince them that the person who got them involved is the one at fault and not them! We as adults have the responsibility to protect our children any way we can. We need to fight the access to pornography and the exploitation of children. We must make the government aware of the harm television programs can do to teenagers and children. For example the rate of pregnancy under teenagers is very high, so we need to educate our children. Keep them busy with sports, arts or have them attend a church. Participate in their activities. Many churches have excellent youth programs, seek one out and investigate the suitability.

Remember that these children will need help for a long time and will need to be reassured that they are not at fault. Show them that they are loved and secure in their own home.
